As part of its strategy to develop international training and consultancy services for social security administrations, the ISSA has agreed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Canadian National Institute of Disability Management and Research (NIDMAR).
The agreement, which was signed by the ISSA Secretary General Hans-Horst Konkolewsky and Mr Wolfgang Zimmermann, NIDMAR’s Executive Director, will contribute to the establishment of a new ISSA Academy, which is a key component of the ISSA’s Centre for Excellence for Social Security Administration, to be launched in November 2013.
According to the Memorandum, the NIDMAR will participate in the development of an ISSA accreditation system and training strategy, which will provide a range of capacity-building and technical support services to social security organizations, with a special focus on the area of prevention.
The ISSA and the NIDMAR will also jointly collect evidence on the economic benefits of return-to-work and disability management, that can help promote return-to-work programmes among ISSA member institutions worldwide.
As part of its ambitious Centre for Excellence initiative, the ISSA is developing international guidelines for several areas of social security administration, including return to work, workplace health promotion, and the prevention of occupational risks.
The signing ceremony took place at the Pacific Coast University for Workplace Health Sciences, in Port Alberni, British Columbia, Canada, on 10 June. Also present at the event were representatives of ISSA member organizations from several countries, including Canada, Malaysia and Hong Kong.
The ISSA Secretary General also attended the annual meeting of the International Disability Management Standards Council, in Vancouver, together with Mr Joachim Breuer, Chair of the ISSA Technical Commission on Insurance against Employment Accidents and Occupational Diseases, who co-chaired the meeting. Mr Konkolewsky also met with the Board of NIDMAR and the Board of Governors of the Pacific Coast University.
