Report: Singapore Is the Top ‘Smart City’ for 2020
The Smart City Index Report, released Thursday in a collaboration between the international educational institution and the Singapore University of Technology and Design, ranked 109 cities based on perceptions of infrastructure and technology from 120 residents in each place. The residents were polled in April and May of this year on their city’s technological provisions related to health and safety, mobility, activities, opportunities and governance, according to the report.
The top 10 included cities from around the world – from the United States to East Asia to New Zealand. Three cities from Nordic countries – Copenhagen, Denmark; Oslo, Norway; and Helsinki – ranked in the top 10. Singapore took the No. 1 spot for the second year in a row, with Helsinki climbing from No. 8 in 2019 to No. 2 this year. Two Swiss cities – Zurich and Geneva – also finished in the top 10
